In view of the massive deforestation around the world and in The Gambia in particular, we launched what will be an ongoing tree planting exercise at all our schools. The plan is to plant an orchard at Kumbija, Loumen and Jamwelly with Pomegranate trees, mango, orange and lime varieties too. The pupils are being taught about the importance of trees with an emphasis on oxygen and helping to control soil erosion. One of our schools has gone so far as to paint the "Importance of Trees" poster we gave all the pupils on the side of one of the school buildings - how cool is that?!

In July 2019 many of the small shoots that have been growing in pots were transferred into the ground at the schools. Flat Stanley from our friends at Ferney Lee Primary School in Todmorden was in attendance!

In December 2019 we visited Kunkujang Lower Basic School, where the wind whips the sand & dust across the sandy playground, to help the children plant mango, dwarf mandarin, pomegranate, moringa and eucalyptus trees.

In March 2021 we received a number of pictures from Loumen LB & Nursery School of the latest results of our this project. Bravo to everyone at Loumen #TheImportanceofTrees

If you would like to help, a tree costs about £3 as a small shoot to plant.
