In The Gambia, teachers are posted to schools, rather than applying for a position, and are frequently a long way from home. They are expected to find lodgings nearby which can be very difficult in rural villages where homes are already overcrowded. We have recently finished building teachers quarters on the school site to provide staff with their own space, a comfortable bed and a social environment with their colleagues whilst away from home.
The new teachers quarters were completed in late February 2019. The pictures take you from making the blocks back in December 2018, through to the build and painting - with a little help from some of the pupils at the school! Special thanks to Steven Neimantas and Steve Lawther for all their hard work painting and fitting the solar system for lights in the quarters.
